Their story

Dekempeneer: efficient planning and time registration in road construction
A well-established name in road construction

Groep Dekempeneer, based in Machelen, is an established name in the Belgian road construction sector. The company employs around 75 people, both site workers and office staff, and specialises in road and sewerage works for public and private clients alike. From its base in Machelen, the team delivers projects every day across Brussels, Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant.

A family business with deep expertise

Dekempeneer has built a strong reputation in infrastructure works over the years. The company combines craftsmanship on the ground with a modern approach, and invests continuously in machinery, technology and the development of its people. That combination allows Dekempeneer to offer a broad range of activities, including road works, sewerage works, transport of raw materials and materials recycling.

With a team of experienced professionals, the company works daily on infrastructure projects for cities, municipalities and businesses. This practical approach, combined with a firm focus on efficiency and quality, makes Dekempeneer a dependable partner in the sector.

The challenge

Fragmented planning and duplicated work

Before 2019, much of Dekempeneer’s planning and administration still ran through separate systems. Short-term planning, such as the daily schedule for drivers, was handled in Excel. Long-term planning ran through a separate planning programme.

The main problem? The two systems were completely disconnected. Data was not exchanged automatically, so the same information had to be entered several times.

That meant:

repetitive work
a higher risk of errors
less visibility between planning and administration

On top of that, the existing time registration system was not fully reliable. Work locations were imprecise, or simply wrong.

“We once received a location in the middle of the North Sea — which, in our line of work, is obviously impossible.”

The solution

Digitalisation with GeoDynamics

In 2019, Dekempeneer chose to digitalise with GeoDynamics solutions.

With GeoDynamics time registration and Track & Trace, drivers on the road and workshop staff now record their hours simply by badging in. All data is collected automatically in the system.

At the end of each month, that data is sent straight to Group S, Dekempeneer’s payroll agency. Payroll can then be processed immediately, after a short check.

The result:

no more duplicated work
a lower risk of errors
faster, more efficient payroll administration

“The hours our site workers register are sent automatically to our payroll agency.”

“Companies shouldn’t be afraid to make the switch. Any teething problems are resolved quickly, and you definitely notice the added value over the long term.”

Smart integrations

Integration with Orbid for planning

Alongside time registration, Dekempeneer was also looking for a better planning tool. For that, they chose Orbid.

The partnership between GeoDynamics and Orbid means these systems now communicate perfectly with each other. Absences recorded in GeoDynamics are sent automatically to the Orbid planning module.

As a result, dispatchers and planners always have a real-time overview of who is available.

The result:

faster planning
fewer manual adjustments
smoother collaboration between planning and administration

Dependable support and better collaboration

For Dekempeneer, good support is critical. When a problem comes up, it needs to be resolved quickly.

That is why they value their working relationship with both GeoDynamics and Orbid so highly. Communication between all parties runs smoothly and questions are followed up quickly.

Digitalisation has also had a further effect: better communication between departments means internal processes run more smoothly and there is less frustration on the shop floor. More efficient software therefore saves not only time, but also brings more calm and clarity to the business.
