Team Picnic PostNL is built on a clear structure: a men’s squad and a women’s squad at WorldTour level, backed by a development squad that prepares young talent for the top. The team combines experienced riders with promising newcomers, which keeps it competitive in grand tours, classics and one-day races alike.
Behind the results on the road, however, sits an extensive logistics and staffing operation. From team cars and service vans to coaches, mechanics and support staff: everything has to be planned and coordinated precisely to keep the team running smoothly, on wheels and off.
The challenge
Staying compliant with Dutch legislation was the biggest challenge
The headquarters of Team Picnic PostNL is based in the Netherlands. That means the team falls under Dutch law and regulations on the use of company vehicles. Every organisation that runs company vehicles here has specific obligations regarding trip registration and driver identification.
In practice, every journey made in a vehicle from the team fleet has to be recorded accurately: departure and arrival location, time, distance driven and who was behind the wheel. This registration is not simply administrative paperwork; it ties in with several legal frameworks
How did it work before?
Previously the team relied on nothing but pen and paper in the vehicles
Every car used to carry pen and paper on which drivers had to note their start and end mileage and the purpose of the trip. In practice, many drivers regularly forgot to do so, and there was no overview of who had filled it in and who had not. That caused plenty of frustration and inefficiency. By digitising the process, the team found a far better way to streamline trip registration and keep it clear at a glance.

A badge system in the car combined with the app proved to be the perfect solution
To meet Dutch legal requirements, Team Picnic PostNL uses the track & trace solutions from GeoDynamics. Every trip made by the fleet is registered automatically, including departure and arrival location, kilometres driven and times. The badge system gives each driver a unique identification, so it is immediately clear who is behind the wheel.
